Wednesday's Word

Pro 3:3-7 (NKJV) Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Tuesdays IOW ~ If Mamma Aint Happy....

"'If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!'" We smile as we read the wall plaque in the novelty store. But our smile quickly turns to a frown if truly "Mama ain't happy." This is because the wife and mother in a family often "sets the tone" in the home. The "tone" God wants her to set is one of joy, optimism, and a delight in the Lord and in her family. If your family were called upon to describe you, what would they say?"
~Martha Peace, "The Excellent Wife"

Php 4:9 (NLT) Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you.

Oh my!!! How God works!!! You know God is working on you when you see references in daily things or in something you participate in (like the In Other Words here) and it is about what God is speaking to you in your heart..... this is a daily work for me.... see, I am the poster child for that phrase.... "If Mamma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" God is dealing we me on my attitude at home..... and that is what it is , my attitude. I want my husband and children to feel only love and support from me.... however I know that I often fall very, very short of that goal.... instead I often get upset way too quickly and before I know it.... ain't nobody in the house happy. And so often it seems the harder I try to do better.... the faster I fall down. Then in frustration with myself.... my temper flares and it has started all over once more.... Sometimes it seems I am in an unending cycle with myself.....

But still I try..... and I am making progress. I know I am better than I was just a few short years ago..... Eric tells me he does see a difference .... but I also know I am not where I need to be in this personal struggle. Please keep me in prayer over this....
I saw this cute quiz over at Dianne's Blog......... so, those that know me best.... does the shoe fit???

Monday Mornings, Sick Kids, and Bank Robbers!

Well, I had to take both boys to the doctors today... both have ear infections.... so off to the pharmacy.... on the way to the pharmacy we notice that one of the local banks has lots of Police and Sheriff Dept. vehicles and many people standing in the parking lot.... I thought to myself.... bomb threat or robbery.... seems it was a robbery.... over the weekend.... and the thieves got away with around 400,000 dollars........ goodness me!!!! Its all over the news at this point!!! The bank was in a temporary building while the new building was being build nearby..... the thieves cut through the roof and torched through the vault...... and walked away with lots of money. Whew!!!

The FBI and the TBI are here doing their investigations..... it is the talk of everyone this evening.

My very good overseas friend Tina sent this picture sometime last year in an email.....

today my laundry pile looks like #7..... can you guess what I am doing today????

My First You Tube post

Hello All..... I had this funny clip emailed to me by a friend...... thought it was just to funny.... hope you enjoy!

Remember to stop the songspot in my side bar to hear this......

Wednesday's Word

Have you ever thought of how you act on a day to day basis? What do others see in your actions when you are standing in the only line at the store and its the only line open and there are 5 people ahead of you with full carts and you have 3 items.... or how about when you are at the dentist's office and they have an emergency come in and the receptionist tells you it will be an hour longer wait? Do they see Christ living in you? Or do they see someone impatient, overbearing, and with a bad attitude to boot?

It has been said that :

PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, ~BUT~THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.

Think about that lone cashier..... perhaps there has been a problem with the other registers, or an emergency with the other cashiers.... or perhaps that cashier is in training and is so wrapped up in doing things the right way she does not think to call for help..... at the dentist do we take it out on the receptionist because there has been an accident and someone need emergency help....

There are so many times throughout our day we can be an example of kindness, patience, understanding and a loving spirit...

2Co 6:6 (NLT)
We have proved ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, our sincere love, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

As children of God we should prove ourselves each day just as Paul wrote in the above verse.... and with the gift of the Holy Spirit living in us we have the ability to overcome any shortcoming in ourselves

Gal 5:22-25 (NLT) But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.

Friday's Fixin's

Homemade Teething Biscuits....

When Jed was teething I wanted a teething biscuit that was inexpensive and good for him.... these fit the bill.

2 & 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup cornmeal

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoon sugar

1 egg

2/3 cup milk

Mix dry ingredients together in bowl. Mix in beaten egg and milk until a ball forms. On a floured surface roll out the dough to a thickness of about 3/8 inch thick. Cut with a cookie cutter in a easy to hold shape (I used a dog bone shape..... it was easy for him to hold , but we did get some really interesting looks!) or cut into shapes with a knife. Place each biscuit on a parchment lined baking pan, then prick holes in each with a fork or toohpick , and bake on 325 for an hour.... these should be hard (like hard tak) if you need to place them back in the oven for an additional 10 minutes or so.... these store really well in an air tight container and they also freeze well.

Jed loved these biscuits.... he would chew on these all the time..... and the shape I chose was just to funny!!!

Sick Day....

Well, Jed woke this morning sick.... he was running a very low fever and threw up all morning long... took about a 30 minute nap around noonish and then woke to tell me he wanted a "bite" (he had not wanted anything all morning long) so I gave him some crackers and some juice..... he ate a bit then curled up in my arms and went to sleep for 3 hours.... woke feeling like himself again and played all evening long with no problems. Ate a good dinner and went down fairly well..... he does have a rash under his arms and some on his back and down his sides. It is itching and bothering him so I did give him some allergy medicine ..... who knows .... it could have been something he ate yesterday evening.......

Wordless Wednesday ~ The Gate

Thanks for stopping by.... check out more Wordless Wednesday.

Wednesday's Word

Isa 53:2 -12 (NLT) My servant grew up in the LORD'S presence like a tender green shoot, sprouting from a root in dry and sterile ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected-a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised, and we did not care.Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins! But he was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed! All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the guilt and sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. From prison and trial they led him away to his death. But who among the people realized that he was dying for their sins-that he was suffering their punishment? He had done no wrong, and he never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man's grave. But it was the LORD'S good plan to crush him and fill him with grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have a multitude of children, many heirs. He will enjoy a long life, and the LORD'S plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of what he has experienced, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of one who is mighty and great, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among those who were sinners. He bore the sins of many and interceded for sinners.

Tuesdays IOW ~ Discovery

One of the most wonderful things about knowing God is that there's always so much more to know, so much more to discover. Just when we least expect it, He intrudes into our neat and tidy notions about who He is and how He works.

~ Joni Eareckson Tadaby ~

1Co 13:9-12 Now we know only a little, and even the gift of prophecy reveals little! But when the end comes, these special gifts will all disappear. It's like this: When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child does. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me now. (NLT)

How wonderful it is to be a Christian. God allows us the time and lessons unique to each of us for learning more of His ever enduring love for us, His children. He knows that we all must learn in our own way and as He provides those lessons, He is ready for us (to come to Him) at any time to offer comfort, support, strength and the enduring promise of truth..... for He never changes.

All that I know now is partial and incomplete,....... just as a little babe must learn to do all things, we as children of God must learn and discover for our own selves the boundless wonder that is God's grace and all that it entails..... oh what blessings each of us have been bestowed. We must treat each day as a new adventure into the depth of God's infinite wisdom. For it is in each new discovery that our faith our boldness and our dependence on Him will ever grow.

Thanks to Susan at Forever His for hosting this week's IOW!

Mommy Moments.....

You know the ones. Those moments you will treasure forever and look back over the years and smile, laugh, tell stories about and treasure the rest of your life.... how precious they are....
.....like when your little one brings you a dandelion because its a pretty flower.
.....or when your little one climbs up in your arms just to snuggle.
.......that burst of laughter that can only come from pure joy.
........watching daddy and the kids play a game of dog pile in the middle of the floor.
........listening to the little one singing all the wrong words to a song.....that one is a favorite here.
..........a little one presenting a boo-boo for kissing.

and so many more. Priceless Moments. Treasured Moments. Mommy Moments.

Psalms 127:3 Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from Him.

1/2 cup melted butter

Wordless Wednesday ~ Spying the Fountain

More Wordless Wednesday.

Wednesday's Word ~ Roots

Anyone that knows me will tell you I don't do gardens - ever. No flower beds, no vegetables, nothing.... not my area.

But I do know roots. See, I come from a big family.... and an even bigger extended family. And the one thing I can tell you about families especially here in the South.... people and families have roots.

I myself come from a family of mixed heritage.... some Cherokee , some Scottish background, and lots of other "nationalities" from both my parent's sides. But more than that, I come from a family that is rooted in Christ. My grandfather was a preacher, many of my uncles and cousins are preachers and although my dad was not, he lived his life as a living testimony to others of the goodness of God.

But in this life it takes more than just your family's roots...... you need personal roots as well. The writer of Ephesians says it like this in chapter 3 verse 17 (NLT) And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in Him.
May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love. Do you see that? Your roots..... each of us has roots to attend. And our personal roots need to go down deep .... but not just anywhere ...... we need to be planted in the soil of God's love. And that soil the writer is talking about is none other than Jesus. We as Christians must plant ourselves in Christ. We must take root in Him, finding all that we need in Him.

Col 2:6-10
(NLT) And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him. Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done. Don't let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ. For in Christ the fullness of God lives in a human body, and you are complete through your union with Christ. He is the Lord over every ruler and authority in the universe.

Jesus must be the only one in who we find our nourishment in ..... our roots will not grow in the truth if we do not delve ever deeper in Him. There is only one way.... one perfect truth and we will only find it in Christ.

Ten Reasons I Blog...

I've been tagged. Mel Avila Alarilla from Random Thoughts tagged me to share Ten Reasons I Blog. So here goes......

1. Blogging gives me an outlet..... most of my days are filled with what most people these days might think of as boring days..... chasing after kids, cooking, cleaning ...... you get the picture..... but I can let the world know that although my days are quiet and sometimes our family does without on many things ..... that we are happy, healthy, and love the Lord. We are so very blessed.

2. I like to brag a bit on my wonderful family. Eric is wonderful and the kids are growing up to be fine young men and women. I like to take time to let others know how great my family really is.

3. I like to share some of my favorite recipes..... I know its been a little while since I have but now that we are getting more settled in the new house.... I plan on making Friday's Fix'ins a regular thing once more!

4. I have met some of the most wonderful people online. Blogging helps me to stay in touch.

5. I like to see what others write about in their blogs. I have never planned on having a set reason to blog.... just wanted to share random thoughts ( or ramblings as I call them) but I do like to see how others turn one area in their life into a blog.... its very interesting.

6. We have family and friends that live a good distance away.... visiting with them is often difficult or simply not an option very often.... blogging helps them keep up with us and see what we've been up to.

7. I like to write.... always have..... I may not have the best way with words.... but that has never stopped me from doing much of anything.

8. I like to share how God blesses. We may not have many material things but we have a deep abiding JOY that can only come from HIM.

9. Blogging helps give me perspective. I may read something on another blog that may make me think on a subject in a different view..... kinda a different angle of thinking than what I might normally take.

10. I like to have company...... love visitors...... I love to invite people into our home..... this is just another way to do so......

So, ten reasons I blog....... now I am tagging anyone that reads this post. Also, Denita, Judy, and Tina you all three can count yourselves especially tagged! Thanks to Mel Avila Alarilla for tagging me and getting me to think about why I blog.... never really thought much about it before.

Good Monday Morning

Hello all out in blogland..... its Monday and looks to be a great day. I have so much to do today. Yesterday we had a big celebration for our congregation's 90th Anniversary at Lomax and had lunch after services.... I cooked up lots but now have a messy kitchen to clean up today.... I would have done it yesterday but my leg hurt for one after we got home and two ..... I had company! Denita it was so great to visit with you!!! I am so glad you got to come! So, today- like I said - is going to be a day of cleaning..... then later this afternoon I will be doing some work at the Senior Center here doing some very basic computer lessons for some of the seniors.... how to turn on a computer, log on, some things on the desktop and helping any of them to sign up for email and such..... I hope it will be fun for all of us!

Well, my leg is getting better and I can go for longer amounts of time without it starting to bother me. I still have to watch it from getting banged on (like yesterday when Jed wanted down from my lap and kicked me in the leg) OUCH!!! and I cannot squat because it puts to much pressure on that lower leg muscle. But thankfully it is not broken and will heal with time!

I'm off to get some things started this morning..... visit back again!

Thursday, April 03, 2008

Well, I am up and about...

Good morning all.... I have been up and about (slowly) for the last few days..... I just have to take it easy because if I do too much then my leg starts to swell all over again. I have sooooo many bruises its not funny and I ache all over.....

funny note****

the other night I was on the couch with my leg all propped up and resting ..... I was so sore and achy that I looked over at Eric and told him I just felt like someone had just beaten me all up..... his reply???? ........"Its okay honey.....you LOOK like someone beat on you too"........ gotta love an honest man!

I am just so thankful that I did not end up with a broken leg..... the wood pallet we were using as a temp. porch was just sitting on blocks so when I fell it came over with me...... that is what saved my leg from being broken....I had Jed in my arms and all I could think about was making sure he did not get hurt..... guess that is why I got so banged up...... oh, well, I am sooo very glad he came out of it unharmed.

Well, I must get going this moring.... its time to get everyone up for the day..... and a dreary day it looks to be.... it has been raining overnight and will be raining most of the day and tomorrow according to the weatherman.
I don't think I will try to get out in it today.... I have plenty of stuff here to keep me busy so we will just stay inside today.
